Local Yarn Store Day is a brick-and-mortar yarn shop appreciation day created by TNNA (The National NeedleArts Association) members. The 9th annual LYS Day took place on April 25, 2026 and is designed to show support for small businesses while bringing together a unique community of knitters, crocheters, weavers and spinners to drive awareness and celebrate the craft.

Finding a great LYS is always a boon for fiber crafty people. There are few places where you can buy yarn and then sit with other crafty people and knit/crochet something with that yarn. Established knitters/crocheters offer advice to newbies. Classes are given. Patterns & equipment are sold. And best of all, you can play with beautiful yarn!

LYS's have a different vibe to them than most big box stores do not have; inviting, friendly & chillaxed are words that come to mind. With the current economic challenges that the US and many other countries are experiencing right now, it is important to remember that our small LYS's may be struggling right now. Their customers may not have enough expendable income to justify visiting and buying from them as often as they used to.

At The Wooly Dragon, we sell mostly from our website, but sometimes we go to craft shows. Someday, we would love to have a brick & mortar store; perhaps when the economy improves. For right now, we urge you to search for an LYS near you and check it out. Buy a pattern. Ask about classes. Save your pennies to buy enough of that luscious alpaca/silk yarn you drooled over to make a sweater for yourself.

Oh yeah, and, if you can't visit a brick & mortar store, we are always open. Come look at our small batch, hand dyed yarns. We don't mind if you drool!
